Let’s get real now ladies

After I got divorced I was in some serious emotional pain.

I was stripped of my definition as wife and felt like I was a mother only half the time because suddenly there was joint custody. And my baby was only four years old.

I remember I could not and would not go to family gatherings on the weekends when I was not with my son.

It was too painful to see my sister’s kids and not have mine there with me. I felt like there was a hole in my life, in my heart, like something was wrong with me. I felt shame.

I remember even just to walk my dog in the neighborhood without my son triggered a sense of shame.

Like, I would imagine people thinking “what’s wrong with her that she is without a husband, without a child”? Like there is something wrong with a woman just being.

And it turns out in our society there is something wrong with that.

Women are raised to think and believe they were created FOR someone else: A husband (sad fact, the word husband in Hebrew literally means “owner”, I know, it’s disgusting.)

But I digress. According to the patriarchy which we grew under, women’s energy, time and resources belong to their parents, their community, their children, their boss, etc.

Their energy and body is not their own, and that is changing now. It is my mission to get women back to owning their energy, their time, their bodies, their finances, and their life.

Yesterday evening as I walked my dog out I was reminded of the thoughts that would run through my head a few years ago when I was alone and the shame and fear I felt when someone asked me where my son was. As I bumped into a neighbor who asked about my son, I joyously replied: I just dropped him off at his dad’s, thank goodness, I have the whole weekend all to myself!

Sure it took me some time to get there, to focus on the yes and not the no. And THAT’S what I’m talking about.

Being a woman to my own devices. Enjoying my time. Enjoying my freedom, enjoying my god damn sovereignty. Without the guilt, without the loneliness, without the shame of having to be something for anyone. My value is in just being me and doing what feels good to me. Period.
