Why sales are hard for creative

Hey there jewels,

In my last article, I explained the term Bliss Trauma,

Today I want to get into the nitty-gritty of a potentially painful topic for many many women creatives; the trauma that is triggered when practicing the art of selling our creations.

I work with ambitious sensitive women, and the fear that comes up for them (and something that had me on a crazy rollercoaster too) is putting a price on their art, services, or time, and negotiating those terms within themselves and with prospective clients.

This topic is so loaded and painful for so many women that many many MANY women don’t even go there. By “don’t go there” I mean - don’t start the creative business they want, maybe keeping their creations separated from their business, or starting and then stopping when it just feels too hard or shameful or confusing for them to price, market or sell their works/products/services.

A few of the “sales fears” I encountered with women are:
I’ll be humiliated- no one will want what I offer or say it’s too expensive.
If I offer a product or service - I might be offending or hurting the person in front of me.
If I “ask for the sale” I’m trying to take something from them. (It feels exploitative).

I talk a lot about the witch wound - the collective feminine trauma of exposing and expressing ourselves for fear or humiliation/annihilation, but today I’ve got a very sad discovery to share, specifically about the blocks/trauma women artists have when it comes to selling their work.

I discovered this one from a colleague in Sweden.

Are you sitting down?

Many women in their past lives were forced to sell their bodies for survival purposes.

This is a terrible human collective trauma and for many female creatives - a personal one from their own soul journey.

Now, let me say a little something about past life trauma.

When a trauma doesn’t receive healing in a past life (or if your life ends during the experiencing of that trauma), it carries on with the soul and then manifests itself in strange or very banal day to day experiences in the next life here on earth - not in order to cause us suffering (which, it often sadly does) but in order to be healed.

When the trauma directly correlates money and abuse together - this manifests in women’s lives today in how they handle and relate to money and their relationship to their business.

Why women artists though?

It’s because when women (which are naturally the bearer and bringer of life on earth through their bodies) birth artworks, those creations can feel like a part of their physical body, just like a child. So it can be hard to let go of that creation in the physical world (sell it, offer it, etc.).

When you add to that the big T trauma of being forced to give their bodies against their desire, - being abused and used by forces they felt like they had to surrender to, and giving away the one thing they should always have sovereignty for - their bodies, their will power- you start to understand the magnitude of this pain.

Add to that, many artists facilitate their own bodies in some way for the act of creating the art. Add even more to that, many female artists create depictions of their physicality, whether via painting, or photography. (Cough cough, I’m obviously a raving example of this one).

So, women who have been through this terror, and feel like their creations are a part of who they are on a soul level, and maybe even a physical part of their bodies, find it extremely hard (or even feel impossible!) to price, offer, market and sell their art, time, and energy - it’s a huge inner conflict!

I know - It is a sad, super frustrating and even maddening at times ordeal, but instead of staying in the unknown trauma, manifesting in the hardship, we can become AWARE and start healing this individually and collectively together.

What to do (for non-female artists) if you want to help?

Step 1 - Listen with an open heart and compassion and feel their (our) pain.

This alone is extremely healing, for everyone. You can do this right now if you haven’t opened your heart yet, with just one deep breath and a compassionate intention, and you are there.

Step 2 - Invest in original artwork/services by female creatives.

Without art- the world would be a shitty, grey place. When you invest in art - you invest in both your inner and outer world, and you support another person living their dream. Isn’t it a better investment than a new car for example? Ummm. Yes it is.

Step 3 - Do not negotiate the price you are given by the artist.

This should be such a huge daaaaaaa…. for people, and it’s not.

LISTEN -  It’s hard enough to price and sell artwork dude - how do you think it feels for the artist when you ask to pay less? It makes you an insensitive #$%^@ (whether you are a woman or man!), pardon my French. #sorrynotsorry

P.s - If the artwork is not in your budget, that’s totally legitimate! just say that, but don’t think the price has to change just because you believe you can’t afford it (if that’s the case).

Step 4 - Get out of your way to appreciate creatives and their art, tell your friends about who you love, let them host an exhibition in your salon if you have a beautiful home, just support them, it’s not that hard.

What to do if you are an artist or creative dealing with money, visibility, sales block?

1. Do your inner work - find the source of the trauma, feel that crap, forgive yourself for what you had to do and others for what they did to you. Decide the narrative is different from now on. Create a new narrative. Get professional help if you don’t know how to do that on your own.

2. Remember - even if it feels like it - your artwork is NOT you. Learn to let it go and release the emotional and psychic ties that might have been created between you and the work.

3. Realize - If your art doesn’t move around and encounter other people, it cannot influence their lives for the better.

If you are still here and maybe lost me a bit - ill summarize!

There is a pandemic of women fearing the sale of their artworks, energy, and time. This is partly created by a massive collective trauma in which women, in past lives, have been physically abused for money (have been forced to prostitute their bodies to survive)- this means it is very triggering for them on a physical, spiritual, and emotional level to price, offer, market and sell their works!

This is a terribly sad and infuriating condition of the human race today (if you are a troll, then no, I’m not saying it’s the only important problem with the human race, go away). Whether you are a human who doesn’t suffer from this trauma or a human who is - you can help and you can heal. Go above for directions.
